Sustainability at West Coast Canyoning Adventures

At West Coast Canyoning Adventures, our commitment to sustainability is at the heart of every thrilling experience we offer. Nestled in nature's grandeur, we recognize our responsibility to protect and preserve the environment that is our playground and passion.
Our recent audit by Bridge Sustainability Inc. has been pivotal in our journey towards sustainable adventure tourism, highlighting key areas for growth and aligning us with global sustainability standards. This rigorous process has not only improved our operational practices but also deepened our dedication to eco-conscious exploration.
As we guide you through the stunning canyons, our practices are designed to minimize environmental impact and maximize your connection with nature. From using eco-friendly gear to educating our adventurers about the local ecosystem, every aspect of your journey with us is infused with a respect for the natural world. Join us at West Coast Canyoning Adventures, where adventure meets sustainability, and together, let's explore the wonders of the canyons while safeguarding them for future generations.

Achievements in Sustainability:
1. Eco-Friendly Gear: We've successfully transitioned to using eco-friendly gear, reducing our carbon footprint and minimizing waste.
2. Educational Initiatives: Our educational programs about the local ecosystem have received positive feedback, empowering adventurers to become stewards of the environment.
3. Community Engagement: We've actively engaged with local communities to promote
sustainable practices and support conservation efforts in the areas where we operate.
4. Environmental Stewardship: we operate on a leave-no-trace principle, and ensure our tours do
not disturb fragile ecosystems or transfer invading species across to new habitats.
5. Indigenous Partnerships: We work with local First Nations to ensure the protection of cultural
areas and artifacts, and provide employment opportunities.
6. Pro-Bono Training: we provide free canyoning rescue training to local SAR and complimentary canyoning to our emergency responders as a thank-you for the work they do.
7. Energy Efficiency: our van is solar-powered to minimize energy usage in drying out wetsuits.

8. Ecosystem Protection: Our van is equipped with a cleaning and rinsing system to wash and sanitize equipment, thereby preventing the cross-contamination of invasive species between canyons. We utilize eco-friendly solutions and adhere strictly to the 'Leave No Trace' principles, carrying out and picking up garbage. In fact, over the last few seasons, we have retrieved more than 150 lbs of garbage from the canyons.

Areas for Improvement:
1. Reducing Single-Use Plastics: While we've made strides in sustainability, we're continuously working to further reduce our reliance on single-use plastics throughout our operations.
2. Carbon Reduction: We're exploring options for low-emission vehicles and car-poling solutions to mitigate the environmental impact of our activities and travel.
3. Supplier Partnerships: We're in the process of forging partnerships with suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability, ensuring that our supply chain aligns with our values.
