WHAT IS CANYONING?

Canyoning, or canyoneering, is an adventure sport that combines the thrill of exploration with the beauty of nature. This activity involves navigating through canyons using a variety of techniques such as swimming, rappelling, and climbing, often with the help of ropes. It appeals to both those seeking an adrenaline rush and nature lovers, offering a unique way to engage with the natural world by overcoming obstacles like waterfalls, rocky passages, and natural pools. Although its roots can be traced back to the late 19th century, canyoning did not emerge as a widely practiced sport until much later, gaining significant popularity in Europe and the USA in the mid-1980s as adventurers sought to explore untouched and challenging landscapes

You can learn more about what's involved from this ultimate guide to canyoning. You can discover diverse canyoning opportunities that cater to various skill levels and preferences across Canada and the US, like Western Canyoning in the Canadian Rockies and the Okanagan or Wild Sky Adventures Guides in the Pacific Northwest, Washington State and spearheadadventures in California.
